Fresh chestnut contains a lot of water, sugar and starch. Improper harvesting and storage can easily lead to decay or insects.
1. Chestnut is harvested in three batches according to fruit age. When the fruit and grape peel separate (i.e. explode), shake the young tree with your hand to make all the mature fruits fall. The big tree must climb up the tree and shake the ripe fruit from the branches. Usually, harvest once every morning and evening. This can improve the quality and yield of fruits, prevent chestnut branches and leaves from breaking, and is conducive to high and stable yield.
2. Safe storage:
(1) Wet sand mixing method: use wet medium coarse sand with moisture content of 8%~10% (the chestnut content exceeds the stored chestnut content by 2~3 times), and then mix it with fresh chestnut and put it into the altar. Sprinkle more sand on the altar surface, cover the mouth of the altar with straw and put it on the ground. Later, pour it out and check it. Take out the blackboard chestnut and put it in the jar. When there are more chestnuts, you can also put them in the room. Store the mixed sand in a ventilated place (the stacking height shall not exceed 60 cm) and cover it with film or straw. Pay attention to tumbling and moisturizing, so that chestnut water can be evenly and safely stored.
(2) Mixed storage method of sawdust: sawdust should be fresh with water content of 30% - 35%. For example, dry sawdust can be moistened with water. There are two storage methods: one is to mix the whole fresh chestnut with sawdust. Put it in a box (bag), cover it with sawdust 8-10cm thick, and put it in a cool and ventilated place. The other is in a cool and ventilated room. Enclose a box 1 meter long and 40 cm high with bricks. Put 5 cm thick wood chips into the box, then mix chestnuts and wood chips in the ratio of 1:1, and cover with about 10 cm thick wood chips.
3. Natural air drying method: remove pests and diseases and damaged fruits, spread them for 1-2 days, let the water evaporate, take an appropriate amount of fresh fruits and soak them in a bucket of cold water for 7-8 days, reduce the fruit by about 10%, then take them out and put them into bamboo blue culture medium, hang them for ventilation, and let them dry naturally. A month of storage is a dangerous period. After frequent inspection, if you choose this method to store until the next April, the chestnut is still fresh.
4. Storage of bramble buds: when the bramble buds of chestnut trees are broken by about 30%, remove the mature bramble buds with yellow shells and put them into containers. Cover the top with a little white grass and let it adapt to a period of time in a barn or a dry, ventilated and cool room. Don't eat chestnuts when opening. When you need to eat, remove the thorny buds together, so that you can save them until next spring. At first, the whole seed is still fresh, but it is necessary to prevent germination after spring.
The above is the method that fresh chestnut needs to be harvested and stored in several times. If you have other questions, please consult us!
